Freedom is something so many of us take for granted, but something so many people still lack. There are up to 200,000 “violators” in political prison camps across North Korea. These people are overworked, raped, tortured, and publicly executed. To the North Korean government, these people don’t exist. They’re stripped of their identities and taken away from their families. Those who aren’t in political prison camps lack basic human necessities such as food and clothes.
Although China is supposed to welcome refugees into their country, North Korean refugees are forced to hide and many women are forced to enter brothels and abusive marriages. The Chinese government hunt down the people they are supposed to help send them back to North Korea where they face life imprisonment or execution.
